Monsanto today confirmed that George Zimmerman would appear a spokesperson for the company in a new advertising campaign, although it cautioned the deal was contingent on House Republicans extending the “Monsanto Protection Act” as part of a new omnibus spending bill.
“Ever since the GOP snuck the Monsanto Protection Bill without debate into a continuing resolution earlier this year, we have been operating with the knowledge that we cannot be prosecuted no matter what bad shit might happen as a result of the genetically modified seeds we’re strong-arming farmers around the world into buying,” said Monsanto spokesperson Lou Pole. “One of our marketing guys was joking that it’s like a Stand Your Ground law for the whole global food supply, our CEO happened to overhear, a lightbulb went off and the next thing you know we’re hiring George Zimmerman as a spokesperson and putting metal detectors in all our elevator banks.”
Critics of the “Monsanto Protection Act” say it allows corporate people to kill human people with absolute impunity. Marketing experts said that for a company being told by Republicans it can get away with murder, Zimmerman was the perfect choice for the brand.
